99-02 Firebird owners please read

Urgent important message to follow:

Check your sail panels for bubbling along the top and for hard top owners check the entire roof line for bubbling...

Refer to the following link & GM Technical Service Bulletin:
Service Bulletin: Bubbling Sail Panels - LSx Performance Information
Adobe file
http://ls1tech.com/forums/attachment...chmentid=30522

Yes, I noticed this on my vehicle yesterday. It's not so noticable when the body is not exposed to direct sunlight. However, when it has a little time for the sun light to heat it up. Wow! it bubbles up like crazy!
I'm currently working with Pontiac Customer Service Center to get this repaired without having to pay a dime... It's a defect and they know it! Heck even the TSB which was issued on Feb 2003 clearly identifies the problem and that bulletin was released well after the 1999 Firebird 3 years & 36,000 mile warranty gave out... I'm trying to get it covered under the Corrision warranty of 6 years like others have...

I'll keep you alert to how this goes? Just for added measure I expressed concern about how since it's the adhesive that is causing this how much longer is it till the adhesive lets go of its grip to the sail panel and send it flying off into the windshield of a car that's following me in traffic...

Problem was suppose to have been fixed for the '01 and '02s. Ive seen the '01s still bubble. But my car isnt having a problem with it.

This is a huge thing on LS1tech.com It is a factory recall, even past your warranty experation. Check it out. thats all phone #s, contact info and anything else you should need to get this fixed.
LS1TECH - Compiled Sail Panel information

The problem is that the Sail panels are 3 seperate pieces. The epoxy that they used is a 2 part solution. It builds up condensation inside of it, then its painted trapping in that water. The sun heats it up and over the years the water is trying to evaporate and works its way through the paint. Ends up looking extremely nasty!

Good luck JC!

Hey, thanks and I'm going to need it...

May have to resort to filing a complaint with the NHTSA...

Hey do you think we can make a perment link at the top of one of the forums or create another forum? Maybe call it Tech advice & Info?

I'm sure other people would like a direct link from our website to check recalls and Tech Service Bulletins for their own vehicles.

Heres one link:
ODI - Office of Defects Investigation

I had mine replaced a few years ago, back in July of 03. The epoxy lines were starting to show through the sail panel. I took the car down to what used to be McNamara. They did a good job on the replacement and there was no cost to me at all. The guy told me that they don't even do the replacement. The only thing they do is paint the new one, they have an outside company that deals with composits and fiberglass come in and cut the old one off and put the new one on.

The first thing I would do JC is take the car to Carl Black and talk to them. It is a common problem and you hopefully should not have any issues getting it done at no cost. Norm and I noticed that his is also starting to blister. You guys may want to talk to them at the same time.

Courtsey Pontiac of Longwood said there was nothing they could do that the car was out of Warranty... To which I showed them the TSB and pointed out that when it was released that so was 1999 Firebirds... I said thanks for nothing I'll just contact Corporate then take my business elsewhere.

But before I go I'll make sure the entire planet knows Via the web to not conduct business with your dealership!
